Kasten - Vierstöckiges japanisches Lackkästchen mit eleganter Maki-e-Beschichtung in Gold- und dezenten - Holz, Lack

Good condition. Description: This is a four-layer Japanese lacquered box with a square, vertical form, designed to be both functional and visually refined. The four tiers stack neatly into a compact column and are placed into a lacquered base fitted with an upright carrying handle, allowing the entire set to be lifted and transported as one piece. When fully assembled, the box presents a dignified, architectural silhouette that reflects traditional Japanese design sensibilities. The exterior is finished in a deep brown to near-black urushi lacquer with a soft, restrained sheen. Across the surface runs an elegant maki-e decoration in gold and subdued silver tones. The motif features pine branches, folding fans, rocks, and seasonal plants, arranged in an asymmetrical composition typical of classical Japanese aesthetics. The imagery flows continuously across the stacked tiers, so that when the box is assembled, the decoration reads as a single, unified scene. The handle is also lacquered and embellished with delicate scrolling patterns, adding refinement while maintaining visual balance. Inside, each tier is finished in a warm nashiji-style speckled lacquer. This subtle, matte interior contrasts gently with the darker exterior and gives the box a calm, practical character. The surfaces are smooth and well-finished, suitable for holding food, sweets, or personal items. One of the components includes a matching lacquered lid decorated with the same motif, which can also be used independently as a small tray. The piece conveys quiet elegance rather than ostentation. Its design suggests use in formal or celebratory settings, such as festive food presentation, tea gatherings, or refined storage. The combination of layered structure, traditional maki-e decoration, and functional carrying frame makes this four-layer lacquered box a fine example of Japanese craftsmanship rooted in classical taste.
