Jingasa mit Familienwappen, das von der Shimazu-Clan verwendet wird, das von Minamoto no verliehen - Japan - Edo-Zeit (1600-1868)

This is a jingasa with a family crest of Marunijūji mon 丸に十字紋 (a circle and a cross). The family crest of a circle and a cross is said to have been used as a talisman to ward off misfortune. It is also known as the "Kutsuwa Juji". It looks like a later addition. The family crest used by the Shimazu clan 島津氏 of the Satsuma Kagoshima domain from the Edo period onwards. It is said to have been bestowed by Minamoto no Yoritomo 源頼朝, the first Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate. Jingasa: "Jingasa" is a hat that foot soldiers and miscellaneous soldiers used in the camp from the Muromachi period onwards. It was worn to protect the head as a substitute for a helmet. Jingasa were made of thin iron, leather, paper, and similar materials, with lacquer applied to the surface. In later times, lacquered hats with upturned edges were used for the outings of samurai. Over time, they evolved into items that incorporated artistic designs and materials reflecting social status and class. During the Edo period, they were often black lacquered with the family crest in gold, and were used by the shogun and his vassals for outdoor activities. Height: 7.5 cm Width: 42.4 cm Depth: 42.3 cm Weight: 460 g Condition: This is an item from the Edo period. It has some damage such as scratches, scuffs, dirt, peeling, and dents, but considering its age, I think it is in good condition. We have posted many photos, so please take a look. Atention: The items listed for sale are all used collectibles.
