Norsk Filigransfabrikk, Oslo - Sauciere - .830 Silber - ca. 1895, Art Nouveau

This small silver vessel, produced by Norsk Filigransfabrikk around 1895, exemplifies late 19th-century Norwegian silverware craftsmanship. Measuring 6 cm in height, 5 cm in depth, and 9 cm in width, it weighs approximately 75.4 grams, making it a compact yet substantial piece suitable for individual or tableside use. The form is that of a diminutive sauce boat or cream jug, characterized by an oval, boat-shaped body that tapers gently toward a pronounced pouring spout on one end. Notably, it lacks a handle, which is a design feature seen in some antique European sauce boats from this era, allowing for easy gripping of the body itself during pouring. The vessel stands on a raised, pedestal foot with fluted or gadrooned detailing—a series of vertical ridges that add textural interest and stability while echoing neoclassical influences common in Scandinavian silver of the period. The interior and exterior surfaces exhibit a smooth, polished finish with subtle signs of age, such as minor scratches and patina, enhancing its antique appeal. The hallmark "835" followed by a lion symbol confirms its composition as 83.5% pure silver (a standard alloy used in Scandinavian countries for durability). The lion is indicative of Norwegian origin, used by Norsk Filigransfabrikk, translating to "Norwegian Filigree Factory," ,Oslo known for producing both filigree and solid silver items, including serving pieces like pastry servers dated from 1889 to 1899. While the company specialized in intricate filigree work, this piece appears to be from their line of plainer, functional hollowware, possibly influenced by emerging Art Nouveau styles with its fluid lines and understated Overall good condition, with small dent on one of the rim (showed on pictures)
