近藤樵山 Kondo Shosen (1866-1951) A Japanese-style painter from Kumamoto Prefecture. His artistic name was initially Seizan, later becoming Shōsen. He studied painting under Sugitani Setsusō. He received numerous awards at the Bunten and the Japan Art Association Exhibition. He excelled in animal painting. with signature 'Shosen' 樵山 and seal 'Shosen' 樵山 'Kondo' 近藤 A serene hanging scroll by Kondo Shosen (1866–1951), depicting a family of deer wandering through a quiet pine grove under the soft glow of the moon. The artist captures the gentle atmosphere of the scene with delicate brushwork, subtle shading, and a refined sense of depth. The calm expressions of the animals and the misty landscape create a poetic mood often associated with traditional Japanese painting. Shosen was known for his skillful rendering of animals and natural scenery, and this work demonstrates his ability to combine fine detail with an overall feeling of tranquility. The composition is beautifully balanced, with the tall pines framing the deer as they move gracefully along the forest path. The scroll comes with its storage box, making it suitable both for collectors and for display in an interior space seeking a touch of classical Japanese elegance. It is a charming example of early modern nihonga with warm atmospheric beauty. 近藤樵山 Kondo Shosen (1866-1951) Japanese art kakejiku kakemono wall hanging scroll / Family of Deer in Moonlit Pine Grove with Box Whole dimensions: 20.2" W x 67" H / 51.5cm x 170.2cm Inside dimensions: 13.1" W x 46.3" H / 33.3cm x 117.7cm Material: Silk Technique: Handpainted Roller ends: Wood Weight: 690g including Box Condition Antique items have originally crease, stain, damage, and more.
