Japanese Ceramic Flower Vase with Fish Handles – With Tomobako & Artist Biography – Showa Period This piece is a ceramic flower vase with fish-shaped handles, made in Japan. It features a rounded body rising into a tall cylindrical neck, with decorative fish motifs placed symmetrically on both sides, giving the work a strong presence that balances sculptural form and decorative appeal. The glaze is based on a warm yellow tone, with flowing variations of green to bluish hues running from the body toward the rim. These natural glaze transitions, created during firing, add depth and character to the overall appearance. The rim is gently flared into a shallow, dish-like form, allowing the piece to be appreciated as a sculptural object even without floral arrangement. A square seal mark is visible on the base. The vase is accompanied by its original wooden storage box (tomobako) and an artist biography sheet. Based on the box inscription and accompanying documentation, the work is believed to have been produced during the Showa period. ⸻ Details • Object: Flower vase • Material: Ceramic • Technique: Glazed ceramic • Form: Vase with fish-shaped handles • Country of origin: Japan • Period: Showa period (mid-20th century, estimated) • Accessories: Tomobako (wooden box with cord), artist biography sheet ⸻ Dimensions (approx.) • Height: 22.4 cm • Mouth diameter: 10 cm • Body diameter: approx. 10 cm Please note that slight variations may occur due to the handmade nature of the piece. ⸻ Condition • Generally in good vintage condition • Minor surface wear and light marks consistent with age • No cracks, chips, or repairs observed • The wooden box shows age-related discoloration and wear Please refer to the photographs for details. ⸻ Notes • A fine example of Showa-period Japanese ceramic design • Suitable for use as a flower vase, decorative object, or collection piece • Carefully packed for shipment
