Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung
Carved Wooden Architectural Panel with Figures – West Africa, Mid-20th Century
Large hand-carved wooden architectural panel from West Africa, dating to the mid-20th century.
The panel features a relief composition with three stylised human figures arranged symmetrically around a central rectangular opening, possibly intended for light, ritual visibility or symbolic passage.
The figures are carved in a frontal stance with simplified anatomical features and geometric body proportions.
The surface is richly decorated with incised linear and zigzag motifs, as well as vegetal patterns on the garments.
A carved head element above the central opening reinforces the architectural and symbolic character of the piece.
Panels of this type were traditionally used as architectural elements (doors, wall panels or shrine components) or as ceremonial interior fittings, combining decorative and symbolic functions.
