Paar japanischer Holzgeta „Pokkuri“ und „Okobo“ mit Gold-Maki-e-Kranichen und Muschel-Inlay – Showa - Holz, Lack - Japan - 20. Jahrhundert

Description(本文) This is a fine pair of traditional Japanese wooden geta known as “pokkuri.” The surface is decorated with gold maki-e cranes and pine motifs, symbols of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture. While similar geta are associated with maiko and geisha, this pair is of a smaller size and was made for Shichi-Go-San, a traditional Japanese celebration for children. It represents ceremonial footwear, not everyday use. The design features raised maki-e work with shell inlay (raden), giving the piece strong depth and visual impact. The pair is well balanced, with matching proportions and interior construction. Originally, pokkuri are worn with hanao (toe straps), which are traditionally considered replaceable consumable parts. This pair is currently without hanao, making it especially suitable for display, collection, or interior decoration. Due to its size and decorative quality, this piece is best appreciated as a traditional craft object rather than for actual wear. A rare and elegant example of Japanese lacquer craftsmanship. In traditional Japanese practice, hanao (toe straps) are often fitted after purchase, customized to the wearer. This pair was kept without hanao and remains unused. The item has been stored for a long period, and shows minor signs of age consistent with long-term storage, but no signs of actual use. Material Wood, lacquer (urushi), gold maki-e, shell inlay (raden) Period Showa period (20th century) Country of origin Japan Condition Good condition considering age. Minor signs of age and use.
