Each plane features a wooden body fitted with a steel blade and is designed to be pulled rather than pushed, a distinctive characteristic of Japanese woodworking tools. The blades display hand-forged hammer marks and visible jigane (soft iron) typical of traditional blacksmithing, and maker’s marks (signatures) can be seen on the blades.
