Mask - Traditionelle Holz-Chōrō-men (長老面) Maske (Ohne mindestpreis)

Name: Japanese Traditional Wooden Chōrō-men (長老面) Mask Artist: Seiki (清己) Dimensions: Max H 21.8 cm (excl. facial hair) × Max W 16 cm × Thickness 10.5 cm (8.58 in × 6.30 in × 4.13 in) Weight: 311 g Material: Wood Period: Mid-to-Late Showa Era (1950s–1960s) This Japanese traditional Chōrō-men (長老面) mask is crafted using the one-piece wood carving technique, with its surface coated in genuine urushi lacquer (大漆). It boasts exquisite craftsmanship and a vivid, lifelike appearance that perfectly captures the essence of the character. This mask is specifically designed to portray the role of a village elder, an incarnation of a mountain god, or a respected senior figure. Such roles typically undertake the functions of "presiding over rituals, conveying divine will, and safeguarding the village" in festival performances, serving as symbols of authority and blessing in folk ceremonies. The artist’s signature "Seiki (清己)" is carved on the back of the mask, accompanied by an inscription whose characters have faded and become illegible. Due to its age, natural patina, signs of wear from use, and minor chips are visible on the wooden surface and lacquer coating. A small section of the facial hair has shed slightly. Overall, this mask remains in good condition. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
