The armor displays a level of refinement that is extremely difficult to reproduce today, conveying strength, dignity, and elegance, qualities closely associated with Date Masamune’s image. The lacing is made from 100 percent pure silk, using traditional kachi-ito in a deep indigo tone historically associated with victory and success in battle. This auspicious colour scheme enhances the commanding presence of the armor. The helmet is fitted with a long crescent moon crest, one of Date Masamune’s most recognisable symbols. The crest includes a hand-carved wooden version finished with gold leaf, as well as a sleek metal crescent, allowing for different display aesthetics. Decorative fittings throughout the set are finished with gold plate, giving the armor a rich and dignified brilliance. The cuirass follows the traditional wrap-around Do-maru construction and is accented with elegant brocade fabric featuring floral patterns on the chest and sleeves. These textiles add visual depth and refinement, balancing martial strength with courtly sophistication. The set is complete and includes the helmet with crescent crest, face mask, shoulder guards, cuirass, thigh guards, shin guards, traditional samurai footwear, display stand, black lacquer storage box, and the original wooden name plaque bearing the artist’s signature and seal. The armor is designed as a Boys’ Day (Tango no Sekku) display, symbolising ambition, courage, and future success. The condition is very good vintage condition, with minimal wear.
