The haidate was designed to protect the thighs and features a decorative textile surface with a strong Chinese-inspired aesthetic. The woven design depicts a rich combination of dragons, auspicious clouds and flames, war banners, drums, command batons, and architectural elements such as towers, shrines, and pavilions. The imagery merges symbols of martial strength (dragons, banners, war drums) with auspicious and celebratory elements (clouds and elegant structures), reflecting an ideal of maintaining aesthetic refinement even in warfare. The lower section of the haidate is reinforced with rows of slender vertical iron splints (shino) sewn in a grid pattern. The iron strips are secured to the backing fabric with hemp cords and chains, typical of Edo-period armour construction. The accompanying arm guards are of the shino-gote style, constructed from vertically aligned iron splints affixed to cloth. All components display age-related wear, including tears, fraying, discolouration, staining, rust on the iron elements, and areas of lacquer loss. Please refer to the photographs for the condition. Dimensions of Thigh Guard: approx. H 55 cm W 52 cm Dimensions of Arm Guard: approx. H 69 cm W 18 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos.
