Verrière Doyen - Glasservice für 6 Personen (6) - ART DECO - Uranglas - Ouraline

An elegant and highly decorative set of six Art Deco glasses by Doyen, produced in Belgium in the 1930s. Each glass is entirely hand‑blown, combining a clear crystal bowl with a striking stem made of uranium glass, which reveals its characteristic green glow under ultraviolet light. The contrast between the transparent crystal and the sculptural, stepped green stem is a perfect expression of Art Deco aesthetics—bold geometry balanced with refined craftsmanship. With a capacity of approximately 80 ml, these glasses are ideally suited for liqueurs, cordials, dessert wines, or aperitifs, and also work beautifully as champagne coupes for intimate servings. The proportions feel deliberate and elegant in hand, reflecting the high level of skill involved in their making. Uranium glass is no longer widely produced today, making such pieces increasingly rare and sought-after by collectors. This set is preserved in excellent condition, offering both functional beauty and historical value—a striking example of 1930s Belgian glassmaking at its finest. In the early 20th century, Jean-Baptiste Doyen and his son Gaston established a glass factory in Havré-Ville, near Mons, Belgium. Originally named Verreries Gobeleteries d’Havré-Ville, the company specialized in producing high-quality blown glassware, including tableware, lighting, and decorative pieces. Doyen’s work became particularly renowned for its Art Deco designs, featuring elegant shapes, refined engravings, and meticulous craftsmanship. A notable example is a set of mouth-blown glasses adorned with finely scoured olive shapes and intricate fan patterns, showcasing the exquisite attention to detail of the era. Among Doyen’s most celebrated creations is the “Floralies” series, which embodies the refined elegance of Art Deco design. Produced in the early 20th century, these vases are distinguished by their bold geometric forms, intricate detailing, and rich, vibrant colors. One of the most remarkable models, no. 150, crafted in the 1930s, features striking vertical stripes and a distinctive corrugated collar, often produced in warm brown glass. Many pieces from the series still bear the “Floralies” label, preserving their legacy and making them easily recognizable among collectors. Today, Doyen’s glassware remains highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of Belgian Art Deco pieces. Their timeless elegance and historical significance continue to make them prized additions to vintage collections, standing as a testament to Belgium’s rich glassmaking tradition and artistic heritage.
