„No Title“ – Mixed-Media-Skulptur (Gips, Faux Fur, Spitze) – Yoko Torii - Gips, Kunstpelz, Spitze - Torii Yōko / 鳥居葉子 (b.1980) - Japan - Heisei Zeit (1989-heute)

A quiet and enigmatic object where contrasting textures converge—soft fur enveloping forms that seem to press gently outward, inviting both curiosity and contemplation. Description: This mixed media sculpture presents a compact, cube-like form entirely covered in deep black faux fur. Emerging from the plush surface are nine spherical protrusions arranged in a three-by-three grid, each wrapped in a delicate black mesh or lace material that reveals a pale interior beneath. The contrast between the dense, tactile fur and the translucent, net-like covering of the spheres creates a striking visual and textural interplay. The overall palette is restrained yet sophisticated—the rich black of the fur is offset by the subtle luminosity of the spheres, where the mesh fabric softens the light passing through. The regularity of the grid arrangement provides a sense of order, while the organic quality of the fur and the gentle swelling of the forms introduce an element of the unpredictable and the sensual. The reverse of the work reveals a structured backing with a fabric-covered board visible through the parted fur, fitted with metal D-rings and cord for hanging. The construction demonstrates careful craftsmanship and attention to finish. The work is accompanied by its original gallery documentation from gallery UG, Tokyo, including a certificate card with an image of the piece, the artist's name, title, size, medium, year, and gallery contact information. Cultural & Art Context: Mixed media sculpture combining unconventional materials such as plaster, textile, and found objects has been a significant aspect of contemporary Japanese art since the postwar period. Artists working in this tradition often explore contrasts between industrial and organic, hard and soft, concealed and revealed—inviting viewers to reconsider the nature of familiar materials and forms. Collector Appeal: Works by contemporary Japanese artists working in mixed media remain underrepresented in European collections. This piece, complete with original gallery documentation, offers an opportunity to acquire an intriguing example of material-driven Japanese contemporary art. Artist Profile: Yoko Torii (鳥居葉子) is a Japanese contemporary artist. The present work was exhibited and sold through gallery UG, a contemporary art gallery established in 2001 in Tokyo, known for discovering and nurturing emerging Japanese artists. The work dates from 2008. Shipping / Policy: Carefully packaged and shipped from Japan by Japan Post or DHL with tracking. If you purchase multiple items, combined shipping is available.
