Gasogene - Siphon - Gazogene oder Seltzogene.
For sale is a rare French two-chamber siphon, the so-called Gasogene type, which appeared in the later Victorian era (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasogene). It is in excellent condition for its age, the protective braided mesh (which protected the user from glass fragments in the event of an explosion due to excessive pressure) is undamaged and the same applies to the glass and porcelain part. Functional trigger mechanism. The process of producing CO2 was achieved by mixing two chemical components: tartaric acid and baking soda in the lower part, from which the gas entered the upper part through a glass tube (undamaged) and squeezed the liquid contained there (water or other drinks) through the trigger. A beautiful and very decorative item from my long-standing collection. Total height is 41 cm.
This type of siphon is even mentioned in the famous book written by Connan Doyle about Sherlock Holmes entitled "A Scandal in Bohemia", where it was described in an apartment at 221B Baker Street.
