CITIZEN & SHARP - Taschenrechner (2) - 1980-1990 - MC300 &PA160 Kreditkarte

This set consists of two Japanese credit card–style calculators with electronic telephone functions, produced during the late Showa to early Heisei period (circa late 1980s to early 1990s). Together, they illustrate how major Japanese manufacturers approached the challenge of miniaturizing personal electronics at the end of the 20th century. The first item is the CITIZEN MC-300 Credit Card Calculator with Electronic Telephone Directory. It combines a 10-digit calculator with an alphanumeric phonebook function, allowing name and number storage, automatic sorting, recall, and memo features. According to the original specifications, it offers a 12-character text display and 12-digit numeric display, with a memory capacity of 934 bytes, powered by a single CR2016 lithium metal battery. This example is a complete unused full set, including the original calculator, soft case, retail box, instruction manual, and warranty card. Basic power-on and display functions have been confirmed. The second item is the SHARP PA-160 TEL & SCHEDULE Calculator, a model that reflects SHARP’s characteristic emphasis on user interface clarity and functional layout. Like the CITIZEN, it integrates a calculator with telephone and scheduling functions, but with a more graphic, segmented key design and bold visual contrasts typical of SHARP’s late-Showa to early-Heisei consumer electronics. The PA-160 has been tested for basic operation including display and key response, powered by a single CR2016 lithium metal battery . Viewed individually, each represents a mature stage of card-type electronic devices. Presented together, they form a compelling comparative set, highlighting two different design philosophies—CITIZEN’s refined minimalism and SHARP’s functional visual emphasis—within the same technological era. This makes the set particularly appealing for collectors of Japanese vintage electronics, industrial design enthusiasts, or as a study pair illustrating late-20th-century personal digital tools. Please note that lithium metal batteries are not included, as international postal regulations prohibit shipping lithium metal batteries. Manufacturer Information: CITIZEN is internationally renowned for its precision watchmaking and quartz technology. During the late 20th century, the company expanded into calculators and compact electronic devices, applying its expertise in low-power circuitry and user-focused design. SHARP is one of Japan’s most influential electronics manufacturers, known for its pioneering work in calculators, displays, and consumer electronics. SHARP played a central role in the global development of electronic calculators and portable information devices.
