Original woodblock print - Paper - Ohara Koson (1877-1945) - Cockatoo and Pomegranate - Japan - Showa period (1926 - 1989) The first edition of this design was published circa 1930. The current print is from an early edition. The measurements of the image itself (excluding the margins) are 24.5 x 16.8 cm. Ohara Koson was a Japanese painter and woodblock print designer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, at the forefront of shinsaku-hanga and shin-hanga art movements. Ohara Koson was famous as a master of nature designs. The print is in fair state, but does retain its decorative value. The paper has aged and there are a number of spots in the margins. There are also a few very mild foxing spots inside the image, in the Cockatoo, but hard to see. The biggest defect are three horizontal folding lines, at the top, bottom and in the middle, but, perhaps due to them crossing black and white areas, they are less visible then such folding lines usually are. Will be shipped with great care in sturdy packaging to prevent folding.
