Ohi-yaki Teeschale - Traditionelle Keramikkunst aus Kanazawa - Keramik - 岩村与詩夫 Iwamura Yoshio - Japan - 1900-2000

Item Description This is an authentic Ohi-yaki tea bowl crafted by Iwamura Yoshio. Ohi-yaki is a traditional pottery style from Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, with over 350 years of history, known for its connection to the tea ceremony tradition of the Urasenke school. This tea bowl showcases the characteristic warm amber glaze (ame-yu) that defines Ohi-yaki pottery. The piece is hand-formed without using a potter's wheel, following the traditional hand-building technique passed down through generations. The smooth texture and gentle curves create an ideal vessel for enjoying matcha tea. The bowl comes complete with its original tomobako (artist-signed wooden box) and tomobun (original cloth), which authenticate the piece and protect it during storage. These accessories are essential elements that verify the authenticity and provenance of the work. Ohi-yaki pottery is renowned for its excellent heat retention properties and lightweight feel, making it particularly suitable for tea ceremony use. The warm amber coloration develops through a unique firing process using traditional glazing techniques. Size Height: 9 cm Width: 12 cm Depth: 12 cm Weight 350 g Condition The piece shows minor signs of age-appropriate wear but remains in good overall condition with the original box and cloth included. Artist Profile Iwamura Yoshio is a ceramic artist specializing in Ohi-yaki pottery.
