Frühes Mittelalter Bronzeschüssel aus der Merowingerzeit | frühe fränkische Zeit

A rare bronze bowl from the Merovingian period is for sale. Age: 6th–7th century AD Dimensions: Diameter 25.5 cm, height 8.0 cm, weight 374 g Condition: Very good condition The large-format bowl is made of thin-walled bronze and features uniform, careful material finishing. The slightly outward-curving rim is discreetly profiled and runs around the vessel in uniform width. Two original eyelets attached opposite each other on the rim are an integral part of the form. The inner surface is smooth, and the base of the vessel is slightly offset. The surface shows uniform, dark green to blue-green patina ageing with minor signs of wear due to age. Two older breaks have been professionally restored and are securely closed. Bronze bowls of this size and design are known from the early medieval period, especially the Merovingian era, and were probably used as utility or representative vessels. The rim eyelets could indicate a suspension or secondary attachment; however, it is not possible to assign a clear function. The object is a high-quality example of early medieval metalworking and documents the careful handling of bronze in the 6th–7th century AD. Provenance: From a German antique collection that has grown over 40 years. Originally acquired on the German art market at Galerie B. Gackstätter in Frankfurt, most recently part of a private collection in Baden-Württemberg. Formerly Dr. Schröder, in the Boschmann Collection since 1990. The item comes with a copy of Mr Gackstätter's expert opinion, list no. 1800. Please notice: Due to the German Cultural Property Protection Act, an export licence is required for this item for shipment within the EU or to a third country. There is a one-time application fee of €25, which must be paid separately by the buyer. This fee covers the entire application, regardless of how many items are included. We will submit the necessary documents and handle the application process free of charge. The processing time is approximately 7–10 working days. Authenticity: As with all our objects, authenticity is guaranteed without time limitation. Each object is delivered with a signed certificate of authenticity. Protection of cultural property: All artifacts we offer come from renowned collections and were acquired at art auctions and from estates.
