Keltisch Große keltische Brosche | Etruskische Kultur ist auch möglich

Large-format brooch of impressive design, culturally and historically attributable to the Celtic or Etruscan environment. Material: bronze Date: approx. 6th century BC or earlier (8th–7th century BC) Dimensions: length 16.5 cm and weight 121 g Condition: good condition The large-format brooch is made of bronze and consists of a strongly formed, approximately circular bow that transitions into a long, straight pin arm. The bow is twisted several times and has a striking, spiral-like roughened central zone that is plastically emphasised. The reverse side shows the completely preserved needle with spiral winding and hook end. The surface is covered with a greenish patina; signs of corrosion are present. Large brooches of this type are characteristic of the early Iron Age and served both as functional garment fasteners and as representative status objects. Comparable examples are known from the Italian region, especially from central Italy, where they are often discussed in the context of Etruscan or Italic-Celtic finds. A published comparative piece (Met museum: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/465321) is attributed to a Celtic culture. Object no. 17.192.251a, b Provenance: Formerly from the Odermatt Collection of Antiquities, Zurich. In the collection since the 1970s to 1980s. Acquired on the German art market. Please note: Due to the German Cultural Property Protection Act, an export licence is required for this item for shipment within the EU or to a third country.
