Wal - Fossiler Zahn - Basilosaurus - 5.3 cm - 2.5 cm (Ohne mindestpreis)
→5.3 cm long x 2.5 cm wide at widest point Basilosaurus molar
This is a beautiful, medium-small form factor Basilosaurus molar in nice yellow coloration with some interesting black lines and spots in it. The teeth is the molar (not the pre-molar) and it the one at the very end of the jaw. Another cool feature of this teeth is the fact that small amount of jaw bone is embedded between the teeth roots.
The molars had the key role in chewing and shearing of the flesh from the prey in the Basilosaurus jaw as Basilosaurus was top predator during the late Eocene epoch, approximately 41 to 33.9 million years ago and lurked in the shallow coastal seas.
The teeth has fault lines and cracks which have been filled & corrected out by the application of conservation material effectively the teeth is in natural state.
Its possible that the fossil belong to another member of Basilosauridae family like Durodon.
