Mandolin Zither, Made in Germany, Early 20th Century This mandolin zither is a plucked string instrument combining elements of the zither and mandolin, produced for domestic music-making and amateur performance. The instrument features a shaped wooden body with a black-stained soundboard, floral transfer decoration, and a printed note and scale guide typical of early 20th-century German home instruments.
