Goldverzierte "Shinjin-mon" Keramikobjekte (Set aus zwei) - Keramik - 坂田甚内 Sakata Jinnai (1943-) - Japan - 1900–2000

Item Description This is a set of two exceptional gold-decorated ceramic objects by Jinnai Sakata, a distinguished Mashiko-yaki ceramic artist. Sakata, born in Tokyo in 1943, studied under the legendary Shoji Kamoda and established his own kiln in Mashiko in 1966. His work is characterized by a unique artistic vision that transcends traditional Mashiko pottery. These sculptural pieces showcase Sakata's signature "Shinjin-mon" (deep mystery pattern) technique combined with lustrous gold accents. The objects possess an otherworldly, almost alien-like quality, reflecting the artist's fascination with cosmic and universal themes. Each piece features intricate surface textures achieved through Sakata's mastery of Mashiko clay and his innovative approach to ceramic sculpture. Sakata has held numerous solo exhibitions in New York and throughout Japan since 1987, establishing himself as a multidisciplinary artist working not only with ceramics but also with glass, paper, and metal. His works are celebrated for their bold artistic expression and contemporary interpretation of traditional Mashiko techniques. These pieces represent the creative spirit of a true ceramic innovator who has expanded the boundaries of Mashiko pottery into the realm of fine art sculpture. Size Height: 13 cm (each) Width: 20 cm (each) Depth: 14 cm (each) Weight 810 g (total for both pieces) Condition The objects are in good vintage condition with some minor traces of age consistent with their history. Artist Profile Jinnai Sakata (1943- ) is a renowned ceramic artist based in Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture. Born in Tokyo, he began his ceramic career in 1964 under the tutelage of Shoji Kamoda, one of Japan's most influential modern ceramic artists. In 1966, Sakata established his own climbing kiln in Mashiko and developed his distinctive artistic language. Sakata's work stands apart from traditional Mashiko pottery through his innovative use of black ceramics, gold leaf decoration, and sculptural forms. He has expanded his creative practice beyond ceramics to include glasswork, paper art, and mixed media installations. Since 1987, he has held regular solo exhibitions at prestigious venues including Takashimaya department stores in Tokyo, Osaka, and New York, as well as galleries throughout Japan. His works are characterized by the "Shinjin-mon" pattern—a signature technique that creates deep, mysterious surface textures—and his exploration of cosmic and universal themes.
