A charming Kaga’ware lacquer tea caddy 棗 (natsume) by Ôi Kôunsai 大井好雲斎 (b. 1930) with a continuous design in front of pampas grasses illuminated by a large golden moon. Rendered in golden hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) on a glossy black lacquer ground. The interior with a black lacquer finish as well. Including original wooden signed and sealed tomobako 供箱 (storage box) and leaflet attributing it to the artist Ôi Kôunsai. Ôi Kôunsai 大井好雲斎 (b. 1930) is a traditional Kaga maki’e 加賀蒔絵 lacquer artist. Born in 1930, he studied under the renowned Living National Treasure (Ningen Kokuhô) Matsuda Gonroku 松田権六, inheriting the refined techniques of hiramaki’e 平蒔絵, takamaki’e 高蒔絵, and nashiji 蒔絵. The natsume is in a very good original condition. Please look a the photos for a condition reference. Period: Japan – Mid-/Late Shôwa period (Mid-/Late 20th century).
