Chawan — Herbstlaub in Rot und Grün - Keramik - Japan - 1900–2000

Item Description A refined Japanese ceramic tea bowl (chawan) adorned with a delicate hand-painted autumn motif. The exterior features two graceful maple leaves (momiji) rendered in soft red and coral tones, set against a pristine white slip ground with subtle horizontal brushwork streaks in pale grey and cream. A small cherry blossom (sakura) medallion in black ink and scattered seed-like accents in dark pigment add rhythmic punctuation to the composition. On the reverse, a single maple leaf is rendered in vivid teal green, offering a surprising and captivating chromatic contrast that transforms the bowl depending on which side faces the viewer — a hallmark of thoughtful, hand-crafted Japanese ceramic design. The interior is coated in a soft, creamy celadon-white glaze with gentle concentric wheel marks at the base, evoking tranquility. The foot (kodai) is unglazed and bears two impressed maker's marks — a radiating sunburst motif and a circular seal with kanji characters — indicating production by an established Japanese kiln. The overall form is a classic chawan shape with a gently flared rim and a well-proportioned, stable foot, suitable for both ceremonial tea preparation and display as a fine decorative object. Material: Ceramic, stoneware with white slip glaze and hand-painted enamel decoration. Size Height: 8 cm Width: 12.5 cm Depth: 12.5 cm Weight 228 g Condition Good condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs; the fine craquelure on the glaze surface and light wear on the foot rim are consistent with natural use and firing characteristics. NOTICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
