He founded Usaburo Kokeshi in 1950 and became known for modernizing traditional wooden dolls by introducing creative designs, vibrant colors, and innovative techniques. His work helped popularize kokeshi both in Japan and abroad, making him one of the most influential figures in the craft. . This original kokeshi doll features a camellia pattern and was produced at the Okamoto Usaburo Workshop. This design is known under series titles such as "Winter Camellia" and "Spring Poem," and is a representative work that won the Minister of International Trade and Industry Award at the All-Japan Kokeshi Competition.
