Byōbu-Faltschirm - Papier, Holz, Seide, Foglia oro - Ein sechspaniger Faltbildschirm, auf Papier gemalt, mit Bambus und Vögeln auf einem - Japan - Edo-Zeitalter (19. Jahrhundert)
A Kano School six-panel byôbu (folding screen) on paper, executed in natural pigments on a gold-leaf ground.
The continuous composition presents a landscape with bamboo and flowering plum branches extending across the panels in a balanced arrangement. Among the branches and above the water appear several chidori, together with a blue magpie with a red beak and long tail feathers, perched on a branch.
The screen is finished with elegant silk borders and a wooden frame fitted with gilded metal corner mounts.
The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider.
Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings.
---The byobu is in good condition. Minor wear to the gilding is present, particularly along the hinges; wear to the paper on the reverse and signs of use to the lacquered frame, consistent with age and use. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL or FedEx, accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy.
