Tsurezure - Uemura Shoen 上村松園 (1875-1949) - Japan (Ohne mindestpreis)

Tsurezure つれづれ|Uemura Shoen 上村松園(うえむらしょうえん) “Tsurezure” by Uemura Shoen is one of her representative bijin-ga works, created in pursuit of paintings described as “jewel-like masterpieces with a refined and pure feeling, free from any vulgarity,” and as reaching “the ultimate realm of truth, goodness, and beauty.” This work possesses deep narrative qualities and psychological depiction, portraying a woman who seems to speak quietly to the viewer’s heart. The female figure at the center of the composition appears calm and introspective, as if lost in thought. Rather than depicting beauty alone, the work seeks to express the inner state of “tsurezure,” meaning boredom, contemplation, or a sense of solitude, within the woman’s mind. --- Artist Profile Uemura Shoen was born in Kyoto in 1875. In 1887, she entered the Kyoto Prefectural School of Painting. In 1900, she received a silver medal at the 9th Japan Art Association and Japan Art Institute Joint Exhibition and exhibited “Mother and Child” at the Paris World Exposition. In 1916, she was granted permanent non-juried status at the Bunten exhibition and gained high recognition through many overseas exhibitions. In 1948, she became the first woman to receive the Order of Culture. She passed away in 1949. --- Accessories --- Dimensions & Weight Height: 58 cm Width: 63 cm Weight: 115 g --- Technique & Condition This work was produced using silkscreen techniques.
