Japanese Gold Maki-e Lacquerware (金蒔絵漆椀) - Suppentasse (4) - Meiji - Handcrafted - Holz - Set (4 Stück) – Koi & Moon

Gold-Inlaid Lacquer Bowls, Set of 4 Koi (Red) ×2 / Moon and Pine (Black) ×2 Wooden with Lids | Meiji to Taisho Period, Japan This is a set of four wooden lacquer bowls made during the Meiji to Taisho periods. Red and black — two colors. Koi and moon — two motifs. The combination of contrasting motifs creates a depth and aesthetic sense reminiscent of a story. Red and black, movement and stillness. When all four bowls are arranged together, the aesthetic sensibility and skilled craftsmanship of the artisans of that era naturally come to life. Truly, these are “vessels of their time.” Red Bowl | Carp ― The Beauty of Motion A boldly rendered carp leaping a waterfall, depicted in gold maki-e on a vermilion lacquer ground. This design, embodying both strength and auspiciousness, possesses a presence befitting celebratory occasions. The carp's eyes feature mother-of-pearl inlay, subtly shimmering with light at certain angles, evoking a sense of life. Its charm lies in a restrained elegance characteristic of Meiji-period lacquerware, avoiding excessive flamboyance. Size (approx.) Bowl: Diameter 12cm × Height 5.5cm Lid: Diameter 11cm × Height 4.5cm Black Bowl|Moon and Pine ― The Beauty of Stillness A design featuring a moon and pine tree elegantly arranged in gold maki-e atop the deep luster of black lacquer. Its serene composition, making use of negative space, exudes a calmness contrasting with the red bowl. Evoking a nighttime scene, this bowl brings a quiet tension and dignity to the dining table. The wood base is light and comfortable to hold, while the texture of the aged lacquer possesses a warmth absent in modern pieces. Size (approx.) Bowl: Diameter 12cm × Height 5cm Lid: Diameter 11.5cm × Height 3cm Condition There are minor scuffs and fine scratches from age, but overall it is in good condition. Due to its handmade nature and aging, slight variations in the fit between the bowl and lid may be observed. Please understand this as a characteristic unique to antique pieces. Please refer to the photos for detailed condition. A dialogue of beauty achieved through the combination of red and black. This set embodies the charm of Japanese lacquer art, suitable both as decorative pieces and as tableware for special occasions. The color tones in the images may differ slightly from the actual item. Import duties, taxes, and fees are not included in the product price or shipping cost. These charges are the responsibility of the purchaser.Customs or your local delivery company may contact you by phone or email for clearance procedures. Please ensure that you are able to respond.
