This impressive crystal vase was designed by Léon Ledru for Val Saint Lambert in Belgium around the turn of the 20th century. The "Danse de Flore" series included a large variety of household utensils such as vases, bowls, ashtrays, glasses etc. in combination with clear and different coloured crystal and decorated with 24 ct. gold. This beautiful vase has on the front a large diamond-shaped satin-crystal opaque medallion with a decoration of historical dancing figures. The figures and the edge of the medallion are decorated with 24 ct. gold. On the other side of the vase is a diamond-shaped panel with hobnail, diamond cut design. Val Saint Lambert products contain 33-40% lead oxide, much higher than the legally required 24%. This high quantity of lead allows the crystal to be worked more finely, enhancing the brilliance and clarity of the piece. Léon Ledru (1855-1926) was a French glassmaker and designer. He was the manager of the design department of the Cristalleries du Val Saint Lambert in Belgium for 38 years. Through the firm's work at the 1897 Brussels `'Exposition Internationale" he stimulated interest in avant-garde design. The vase is in MINT condition. An engraved signature "Val St. Lambert" can be seen on the base. An original factory label can be seen on the front of the vase. Careful packaging will ensure a safe delivery.
