Ein Sechs-Paneel-Faltbildschirm, der eine Szene aus dem Genji Monogatari zeigt, auf einem - Papier, Blattgold, Seide - Japan - Meiji-Zeit (spätes 19. Jahrhundert)
A six-panel folding screen painted on paper with pigments and gold leaf, depicting scenes from the Genji Monogatari. The composition unfolds through narrative episodes set within refined architectural interiors and spring landscapes, illustrating moments of courtly life and aristocratic daily activities.
The gold leaf, applied in relief, defines the clouds that separate and connect the various scenes, articulating the narrative rhythm of the screen.
The screen is finished with silk borders and a lacquered wooden frame.
The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider.
Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings.
---The byobu is in good condition, with minor wear and stains across the surface. Paper imperfections on the reverse. There are minor signs of wear to the lacquered frame. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy.
