Three Beauties (三美人) - Bunkyoku (文旭) - Japan (Ohne mindestpreis)

Title: Three Beauties (三美人) Artist: Bunkyoku (文旭) Medium: Woodblock print Seal: Artist’s red seal on the print Paper size: 42 × 55.5 cm (16.5 × 21.9 in) Image size: 39.5 × 52.8 cm (15.6 × 20.8 in) Paper: Washi (Japanese paper) This woodblock print, Three Beauties (三美人), was created by the Japanese artist Bunkyoku (文旭) in the 1920s–1930s. The composition features three Japanese women in traditional kimono, arranged in a tight half-length format. The woman on the left bows her head slightly, her gaze directed downward in a reserved pose; the central and right figures face forward or to the side, their expressions calm and infused with a modern sensibility. All three wear large, bow-shaped modernized traditional hairstyles, which blend Japanese aesthetic traditions with contemporary influences. The kimono are rendered in deep blue, decorated with gold fan-shaped motifs, while the obi (sashes) feature bold yellow-and-black geometric patterns, creating strong color contrasts with the print’s sharp lines and distinct color blocks. The facial features are simplified, rejecting the exaggerated makeup of traditional Ukiyo-e, and instead embodying the concise, powerful aesthetic of modernism. With its modernist forms and bold woodcut lines, this work is characteristic of the early 20th-century Japanese Sōsaku hanga (creative print) movement. The artist’s red seal, “Bunkyoku (文旭),” appears at the bottom left of the print. With age, the print paper shows signs of aging including oxidation, yellowing, foxing, dust accumulation and creasing. This print is unframed; the images only show the framed effect for reference. Note: Delivery to Italy takes approximately 6–7 days. Customs or the courier may contact you for customs clearance.
