A finely executed inside-painted glass snuff bottle depicting a continuous narrative riverside scene with:
Arched bridge crowded with figures
Traditional umbrellas
River boats
Vernacular Chinese architecture
The painting is executed in ink and soft mineral pigments (black, ochre, pale blue tones), carefully applied to the interior surface of the glass. The composition flows harmoniously around the body of the bottle.
The bottle bears a calligraphic inscription reading:
海上作
(“Made in Shanghai” / “Executed in Shanghai”)
This inscription is characteristic of Shanghai School production during the Republican era.
