This is a beautiful vintage Orrefors Graal vase, known as the Fiskgraal (Fish Graal), designed by the celebrated Swedish artist Edward Hald. Height is 15 cm very heavy , nicely engraved on the base. There are two scratches that can easily be polished as seen in the last two photos. You are looking here at a fine example of Orrefors’ innovative Graal technique. The design features fish swimming among flowing sea forms, suspended within thick, clear crystal. The layered glass creates depth and remarkable light movement when displayed. Edward Hald began working with Orrefors in 1917 and became one of the most influential figures in Scandinavian art glass. Alongside Simon Gate and master glassmaker Knut Bergqvist, he helped pioneer the Graal technique, a process in which a decorated colored glass core is encased in clear crystal and reheated, resulting in imagery that appears embedded within the glass itself. This technique became one of Orrefors’ most celebrated contributions to 20th-century glassmaking.
