Takaoka Bronzene Stier-Skulptur – Unaufhaltsame Kraft - Bronze - Japan - Shōwa Zeit (1926-1989)

Item Description This powerful bronze sculpture of a charging bull is a masterwork of Takaoka Dōki (高岡銅器), Japan's premier tradition of bronze casting originating in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture — a craft that has been designated a National Traditional Craft by the Japanese government since 1975. The bull is captured at the supreme moment of concentrated force: head thrust low, neck muscles coiled with tension, four massive hooves planted wide, and the body surging forward in an unstoppable charge. Every anatomical detail — the swelling haunches, the deep crease of the neck, the tapered horns, the curling tail — is rendered with confident, flowing sculptural authority. The surface is finished in a rich, deep reddish-brown patina known as akayaki-iro (赤焼色), achieved through Takaoka's celebrated chemical coloring process in which natural compounds react with the bronze to produce a warm, burnished depth that deepens and matures beautifully with age. The play of light across the rounded muscles shifts between warm mahogany highlights and deep shadow, giving the sculpture a commanding three-dimensional presence from every angle. Takaoka bronze casting is distinguished by its combination of lost-wax and sand-casting techniques, master-level chasing and finishing, and the unique coloring methods developed over four centuries. The art form achieved world recognition when pieces were exhibited at major European World Expos during the Meiji period, and it continues to represent the highest level of Japanese metalwork craftsmanship. The piece is accompanied by its original decorative paper box. It makes an exceptional decorative object for an office, study, or collection — a timeless symbol of strength, vitality, and forward momentum. Size Height: 13 cm Width: 7.7 cm Depth: 24.5 cm Weight 2,240 g Condition The sculpture is in excellent condition with no damage, repairs, or notable wear; the rich patina is fully intact and consistent throughout. Artist Profile This work is produced in the Takaoka Dōki (高岡銅器) tradition, a National Traditional Craft of Japan originating in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, with over 400 years of continuous history dating to 1611. Takaoka's distinctive techniques encompass precision casting, chasing (彫金), inlay (象嵌), and chemical coloring that exploits the natural properties of bronze to achieve a range of rich, permanent tones. KOGEI JAPAN The individual craftsperson is not identified on this piece. NOITICE: The photos may show flowers, plants, pedestals, etc. as examples of decorations and interior design for illustrative purposes, but please note that these are not included in the product.
