Kürbisförmige Vase mit zweifarbiger Glasur — Kyoto-Ware - Keramik - 川瀬竹秋 Kawase Takeaki(1958-) - Japan - 1900–2000

Item Description: 川瀬竹秋 Kawase Takeaki(1958-) — Kakewake Hyōko (Two-Glaze Gourd-Shaped Vase) This exquisite gourd-shaped (hyō-gata) vase showcases the refined artistry of Kawase Takeaki, one of the most accomplished Kyoto ceramists working in the Japanese traditional craft tradition today. The piece employs the kakewake (divided glaze) technique, in which two distinct glazes are applied in carefully composed sections, creating a striking contrast of colour and surface that animates the elegant, double-lobed silhouette of the gourd form. The hyōko (gourd vase) is a form steeped in classical Japanese and Chinese aesthetic tradition, prized for its gentle, organic curves and auspicious symbolism. In Kawase's hands, this classical vessel becomes a vehicle for sophisticated glaze expression — the interplay of the two glazes flowing naturally across the sculptural form, capturing both technical mastery and poetic sensitivity. Presented in its original wooden storage box (tomobako) with accompanying booklet (shiori), this piece comes in fine condition and is ready for display or for use in a tea ceremony or ikebana setting. Size Height: 27 cm Width: 12 cm Depth: 12 cm Weight: 1,157 g / 1.16 kg Condition This piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or notable flaws; it comes with its original wooden box and booklet. Artist Profile 川瀬竹秋 Kawase Takeaki(1958-) Kawase Takeaki was born in 1958 in the historic Gojōzaka pottery district of Kyoto — the very heartland of Kyō-yaki (Kyoto ware). He trained rigorously in the ceramic arts and studied under his father, Kawase Mitsuyuki, deepening his command of traditional Kyoto glaze techniques. He was first selected for the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition in 1984, and in 1997 was certified as a full member of the Japan Art Crafts Association (Nihon Kōgeikai) — one of the highest distinctions in the field of Japanese traditional crafts. He has received the Matsushita Konosuke Memorial Prize at the Kinki Exhibition of Japanese Traditional Art Crafts, and has held solo exhibitions at leading galleries and department stores across Japan. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
