"Ribbon" — Eine mystische Glasstab-Skulptur, die die Grenze des Raums verwischt - Glas - 広垣彩子 Ayako Hirogaki (1984-) - Japan - Reiwa-Zeit (2019-heute)

Item Description: 広垣彩子 Ayako Hirogaki (1984-) "Ribbon" — Glass Rod / Mixed Media Object Year of Creation: 2019 This mesmerizing glass art object "Ribbon" was created in 2019 by Ayako Hirogaki, one of Japan's most celebrated contemporary glass artists. The work is characterized by its distinctive use of densely clustered slender glass rods, which blur the boundary between object and surrounding space, creating an almost otherworldly visual experience. The clustering of fine glass rods forms a rhythmic, ribbon-like structure that seems to flow and undulate, inviting the viewer to explore it from multiple angles. Each viewpoint reveals a new interplay of light, shadow, and transparency — a hallmark of Hirogaki's artistic vision. The piece comes in its original box (paper case, with some age-related wear). This work represents a rare opportunity to acquire a piece by an internationally acclaimed Japanese glass artist who continues to push the boundaries of contemporary glass art. Size Height: 25 cm Width: 14 cm Depth: 13.8 cm Condition The piece is in good overall condition with minor age-related surface wear; no significant damage or prominent scratches are noted. Artist Profile 広垣彩子 Ayako Hirogaki (1984-) was born in Nara Prefecture, Japan. She studied at the Tanimachi Glass Hono Studio in Osaka (2003–2009), followed by the Tokyo Glass Art Institute (2010) and the Toyama City Institute of Glass Art (2012). She served as a blowing glass assistant and part-time lecturer at the Tokyo Glass Art Institute between 2013 and 2019. Hirogaki's work is distinctive for its use of densely arranged thin glass rods that dissolve the boundary between object and space. Her sculptures evoke both organic forms and scientific imagery, creating an immersive tension between material and void. She has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Grand Prize at the International Exhibition of Glass Kanazawa 2016 and the Excellence Award at the 7th Contemporary Glass Exhibition in Sanyoonoda (2018). Her work was selected for the cover of the 2024 publication Postwar Japanese Contemporary Glass History. She continues to exhibit internationally and is regarded as one of the most innovative voices in contemporary Japanese glass art.
