These cords were produced in Japan during the Showa period and are made of cotton with internal reinforcement, designed to support and stabilise the armour when worn. One cord is made from black fabric woven with a subtle dragon pattern. The cord is padded inside, giving it a soft and flexible structure that would help distribute the weight of the armour more comfortably when tied around the waist. The dragon motif holds strong symbolic meaning in Japanese culture. Dragons represent power, wisdom, protection, and divine strength. In samurai tradition they were regarded as guardian creatures associated with water and the heavens, making them an auspicious motif often incorporated into armour and warrior equipment. The second cord has a different construction, containing a firmer internal fabric core that gives it more rigidity and structural support when tied. Both cords show signs of age and use, including wear from age, loose threads, and areas that appear to have been re-stitched. Fair to good vintage condition. Please refer to the photos for details.
