Top makelloser Nigersaurus taqueti Rebbachisaurid-Sauropoden-Dinosaurienzahn - Fossiler Zahn

Scientific name: Nigersaurus taqueti, (Sereno et al., 1999) - Rebbachisaurid sauropod dinosaur tooth Location: Gadoufaoua, Téneré Desert, Niger. Geological Formation: Erlhaz Fm Age: Lower Cretaceous, Aptian/Albian stage ( 113 million years) Size: 17,2mm REF.: #S414 DESCRIPTION: Here we introduce this exceedingly rare dinosaur tooth from Elrhaz Fm. It is an authentic tooth of Nigersaurus, herbivorous sauropod rebbachisaurid dinosaur that lived during the Aptian stage of the Early Cretaceous of modern-day Niger. Small for a sauropod, Nigersaurus was about 9 m (30 ft) long, and had a short neck. It weighed around 4 t (4.4 short tons), comparable to a modern elephant. Observations: This Nigersaurus tooth is especially impressive because its pretty well preserved and intact. It shows virtually no signs of feeding wear, so we can assume it was a very juvenile individual, or a recently erupted tooth. It could be mistaken for a pterosaur tooth, but we can see how the enamel on its labial surface is more developed than on its lingual surface, which is characteristic of these rebbachisaurid sauropod teeth. A truly exceptional specimen. It is very rare to find Nigersaurus teeth of this quality. Elrhaz Formation is mostly made up of fluvial sandstones. A diverse assemblage of fossil animals has been recovered, bony fish, turtles, several genera of crocodylomorphs (Anatosuchus, Araripesuchus, Sarcosuchus, and Stolokrosuchus), undescribed ornithocheirid pterosaurs, the theropod dinosaurs Eocarcharia, Kryptops, Suchomimus, and an undescribed noasaurid (possibly Bahariasaurus), the sauropods Nigersaurus and an undescribed titanosaurian (Malawisaurus), and the iguanodontians Lurdusaurus and Ouranosaurus. All of our fossils come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Every week, the issued Certificates of Authenticity are updated in our database verification system on our website. If you find that your certificate has not yet been updated, please contact us and we will update it immediately. Display box included.
