Item Description: This is a curated collection of three vintage creative kokeshi dolls, featuring works by two of Japan's most celebrated masters. 1. "First Love" (初恋 - Hatsukoi) by Suiho Yajima: A delicate piece depicting a youthful figure with hands clasped in prayer or contemplation, adorned with beautifully painted white and orange chrysanthemums. Signed on the bottom. 2. "Chuson-ji Souvenir" by Suigai Sato: A charming doll with a gentle expression and floral motifs, created as a special souvenir for the famous Chuson-ji Temple. 3. "Ryuga-do & Yosakoi Spirit": An expressive doll from Kochi Prefecture. The body features hand-painted calligraphy of the opening lyrics to "Yosakoi Naruko Dancing," a famous folk song telling the tragic love story of the monk Junshin and a girl named Ouma at Harimaya Bridge. It originates from the area of the Ryuga-do cave, one of Japan's three major limestone caves. Artist: Suiho Yajima (1915-): A pioneer of the Creative Kokeshi movement in Gunma Prefecture. His dedication significantly elevated Gunma's kokeshi industry. He received the prestigious Prime Minister's Award in 1958 for his work "Early Spring." His accolades include the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Award, the Paris President's Award, and numerous gubernatorial prizes. Suigai Sato (1920-): Born in Gunma as Sadahachi Sato. He studied Japanese painting under the master Suun Komuro, from whom he received the character "Sui" for his artist name. He began creating kokeshi in 1949 and established the "Suigetsu" workshop in 1953. He won the Prime Minister's Award in 1966 and the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Award.
