Sommer '84 - Künstlerischer Abzug, E.A. - Papier - 加山又造 Kayama Matazo (1927-2004) - Japan - die 1990er Jahre

Item Description This exceptional copperplate etching titled "Summer '84" (夏'84) was created in 1984 by the legendary Japanese artist Kayama Matazo (1927-2004). The work depicts a graceful female nude figure seen from behind, seated in a contemplative cross-legged pose against a deep black background. This sophisticated composition demonstrates Kayama's masterful ability to blend traditional Japanese sensibilities with modern artistic expression. IMPORTANT: This is an Artist's Proof (E.A. - Épreuve d'Artiste) - one of only 15 Artist's Proofs printed, separate from the regular edition of 95. Artist's Proofs are special impressions reserved exclusively for the artist and are highly prized by collectors for their rarity and superior quality. This E.A. designation makes this print significantly more valuable than the numbered edition. The image is rendered using multiple sophisticated intaglio techniques including etching, aquatint, drypoint, and gasp-ashi printing on premium Vélin Arches paper. These combined techniques create subtle gradations and delicate tonal variations, producing an ethereal and timeless quality that showcases Kayama's exceptional skill in capturing the human form with both elegance and restraint. This work is officially catalogued as No. 77 in the comprehensive catalogue raisonné of Kayama Matazo's complete prints (1991), published by Kodansha. This documentation confirms the work's authenticity and importance within the artist's oeuvre. The print was executed at the renowned Kimura Kihachi Print Workshop and published by Gallery HAN in 1984. It bears the artist's pencil signature in the lower right margin and is beautifully presented in an ornate gold-toned vintage frame with decorative corner details. Size Frame dimensions: 47 cm × 59 cm Weight 2292 g / 2.3 kg The catalogue raisonné is NOT included with this lot Condition The artwork is in excellent condition with no visible damage or discoloration.
