This print originates from a high-quality Showa period hand-printed woodblock reproduction set of Utagawa Hiroshige’s celebrated series “The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido,” originally issued around 1833–1834.
Among the many editions of this series, the Hoeidō version is considered the most famous and desirable, consisting of 55 designs (53 post stations plus the starting point Nihonbashi and the ending point Kyoto).
The print depicts the starting point, Nihonbashi.
Hiroshige (1797–1858) captured the landscapes, weather, and daily life along the major travel route between Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto.
This reproduction is published by Yuyūdō, known for its high-quality traditional woodblock print productions. The print is presented loose (not glued to mount) and is in good condition.
It may show minor foxing have small smudges in the margins (see photos).
