This high-quality piece features a breathtaking Nashiji ground—a traditional technique where fine gold flakes are sprinkled into the lacquer, creating a shimmering, pear-skin texture. The lid and sides are decorated with various Maki-e fans, each showcasing different classical Japanese motifs. The intricate gold and silver powders, combined with detailed brushwork, highlight the artist's mastery of Urushi art. Bunko boxes were traditionally used for storing important documents, calligraphy tools, or letters. Today, they are prized as sophisticated interior objects that represent the pinnacle of Japanese decorative craft. Condition In generally good condition. The lid, main body, and interior are well-preserved, showing the brilliant luster of the lacquer and the fine details of the Maki-e. Please note that there is a small chip on one of the bottom corners. This imperfection does not detract from the beauty of the top or sides of the box.
