Noh-Maske - Holz - Okuninushi no Mikoto Maske (Ohne mindestpreis)

Okuninushi no Mikoto 大国主命 / Japanese Bicchu Kagura wooden folk craft mask by 古川巧 Furukawa Takumi - 1963 (Showa38) Okuninushi no Mikoto 大国主命 Okuninushi is the god of nation-building who created a large country in Izumo. He is the deity of Izumo Taisha and the central deity of the Izumo myth. He is a descendant of Susanoo-no-Mikoto, a kind-hearted deity who saved the White Hare of Inaba. He successfully overcame the many trials that Susanoo gave him and became the ruler of Ashihara no Nakatsukuni. Artist: 古川巧 Furukawa Takumi Carved in 1963 (Shōwa 38) by Furukawa Takumi, this Bicchu Kagura wooden mask represents Ōkuninushi no Mikoto, the benevolent deity of nation‑building and the central god of the Izumo myth cycle. Known for his compassion—most famously in the tale of the White Hare of Inaba—and for overcoming the harsh trials set by Susanoo, Ōkuninushi embodies resilience, wisdom, and gentle authority. Furukawa’s carving captures these qualities through the rounded cheeks, calm smile, and softly defined facial planes, creating a presence that feels protective rather than confrontational. The warm pigments, natural wood tones, and subtle textural details reflect the folk‑performance roots of Bicchu Kagura while revealing the sculptor’s sensitivity to character and expression. Within a collection or interior, the mask brings a sense of warmth and cultural depth, its serene dignity adding a quiet, grounding presence to the surrounding space.
