An outstanding and authentic Gope board from the Elema people of the Papuan Gulf, Papua New Guinea. This powerful ceremonial object measures an impressive 184 cm in length and was field collected by an Australian fieldworker, ensuring reliable provenance.

Gope boards are deeply significant within Elema culture, representing ancestral spirits and serving as protective and spiritual guardians within the men’s houses. This example displays a striking, elongated form with a bold and expressive design. The carved facial features and rhythmic patterning embody both symbolic meaning and artistic mastery.
