【Product details】
This is a genuine traditionally forged Japanese wakizashi from the Edo period, presented in a complete later koshirae featuring finely matched dragon-themed fittings. The mounting forms a cohesive and visually striking set, with a strong decorative presence while remaining faithful to traditional aesthetics.
The handle is wrapped in black cord over ray skin. The fuchi, kashira, and menuki are all decorated with detailed dragon motifs, unified in design. The fuchi and kashira are executed on a shakudō nanako ground with raised dragon relief. The dragon symbolises strength, protection, and good fortune in Japanese culture. Nanako is a refined metalworking technique in which the surface is covered with extremely fine, evenly punched dots, requiring a high level of craftsmanship when executed individually. Tsuba looks cast.
The sageo cord is present but loose. A silk storage bag is included.
This sword comes with a copy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate from Tochigi Prefecture, number 47783, as the original will be returned to the government. The certificate details are as follows: Type: Wakizashi, Length: 57.6 cm, Curvature: 1.4 cm, with one peg hole, and an inscription reading “unsigned” on the obverse, issued on 24 July, Heisei 9 (1997).
As an antique blade shows signs of age and history, including surface scratches, minor scuffs, slight oxidation/spotting, and typical forging marks. The scabbard shows a few scratches and surface wear. The metal fittings display age-related patina. The handle wrapping shows signs of use. The storage bag shows fading and small holes. There are no fatal flaws. Signature and datation are subject to authentication. The display stand is not included. Please refer to the photos for details.
Overall length of the blade (including the tang): approx. 78 cm
Overall length including scabbard: approx. 97 cm
