WMF – Set of 3 Heavy Silver-Plated Goblets – Mid-Century Design – Geislingen, Germany – 1.1 kg
Description:
Up for auction is an exceptional set of three massive, silver-plated goblets from the renowned Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) in Geislingen, Germany.
These goblets are characterized by their impressive haptic quality and significant weight, indicating a very solid construction of the base material (Nickel Silver). The design features clean, geometric lines: a wide, conical bowl with subtle vertical facets flows into a slender stem resting on a stable circular base. This set is a prime example of the elegant, functional style of German Mid-Century modernism.
Product Details:
Manufacturer: WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik)
Origin: Geislingen-Steige, Germany
Hallmarks: Fully marked on the underside with:
Inscription: "WÜRTT. METALLW. FABRIK GEISLINGEN-STEIGE"
Material: "NS" (Nickel Silver / Neusilber)
Logo: WMF "Ostrich" mark (dated approx. 1935–1965)
Material: Heavily silver-plated Nickel Silver
Measurements & Weight:
Height: approx. 18 cm
Weight per goblet: approx. 380 g (Total weight of the set: approx. 1,140 g)
Condition: Very solid and high-quality build. The goblets show an age-related dark patina (silver oxidation), giving them an authentic vintage character. They can be easily polished to a high-gloss finish if preferred. Minor superficial scratches and localized wear to the silver plating (commensurate with age) are present, but there are no deep dents or structural damage.
Special Features:
With a weight of 380 g each, these goblets are significantly heavier than standard glassware or light metal cups, offering a very premium feel in the hand. They are perfect for a sophisticated table setting or as prominent display pieces for collectors of 20th-century German design.
