Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung
Sarutahiko no Mikoto 猿田彦命 Tengu 天狗 Long‐Nosed Goblin Yokai / Japanese Bicchu Kagura wooden folk craft mask
Sarutahiko no Mikoto is a deity of the Japanese religion of Shinto, he is the leader of the earthly kami. Sarutahiko no Mikoto was also the head of the kunitsukami. He is depicted as a towering man with a large beard, jeweled spear, ruddy face, and long nose.
Tengu ("Heavenly Dog" or "Heavenly Sentinel") are a type of legendary creature found in Japanese folk religion. They are considered a type of yōkai (supernatural beings) or Shinto kami (gods).
The Bicchu Kagura wooden mask representing Sarutahiko no Mikoto takes the form of a long‑nosed Tengu, its bold red surface, pronounced features, and forceful expression echoing the deity’s role as the leader of the earthly kami and a guide between realms; carved with the vigor typical of regional folk performance masks, the piece draws on the overlap between Sarutahiko iconography and Tengu imagery in Japanese folk religion, where both embody protective, powerful, and sometimes fearsome presences.
