Vom Verkäufer bereitgestellte Beschreibung

Original drawing “Claudia – 1997” by Herman Brood (1946–2001); signed, dated ’97, with authenticity certificate

Authentic, original drawing by the Dutch artist, musician and pop icon Herman Brood (Zaandam 1946 – Amsterdam 2001). The work was signed on the spot by Brood in a bar in Amsterdam; a典ischer example of his spontaneous, gestural working method, in which he often drew in cafés and on location.

About the work
An unmistakable Broodian scene: on the left a self-portrait of Herman with sunglasses and his hands raised, dreaming and fantasizing about an intimate kiss with Claudia; on the right a blonde figure with a cigarette in hand. Between the two figures, fantasy is literally on display: a small yellow-striped field containing two kissing figures, like a film still of what goes on in Herman’s mind. Above, the longing is spoken in Brood’s recognizable handwriting: “oh got, oh got, oh got” repeated several times. The work captures in a few deft lines exactly that raw, romantic, rock-'n'-roll life feeling for which Brood was known; longing, fantasy and café romance in one spontaneous drawing.

Executed in mixed media (marker and pastel) on paper, in Brood’s typical Pop Art style with warm earth tones, bright yellows and orange accents.
