Swiss watch, Jaeger LeCoultre , ATMOS 528-8, series 528688, from 1977, with 15 jewels, revised to date.We are in front of one of the most extraordinary pieces of the horological world, and its magic lies in an almost philosophical premise: it does not need to be wound manually, nor a battery. It is powered by changes in temperature and atmospheric pressure in the environment.
The mechanism works thanks to a hermetic capsule filled with a special gas. When the temperature changes by just 1°C, the gas expands or contracts, activating a bellows that tension the spring, which makes the clock work. With that small variation in temperature, the Atmos clock will accumulate enough energy to work for two whole days. It will be continuously charged, up to the maximum. Theoretically, as long as the clock is in a room with temperature variations, it will work perpetually, without any manual intervention.
