Suzuran (すずらん)|Shizuo Nishizawa 西澤静男 (にしざわしずお)
Shizuo Nishizawa's prints feature a style that expresses traditional Japanese beauty with modern printmaking techniques.
This work depicts "Suzuran" (lily of the valley). In Japan, it has alternative names such as "Kimikageso" and "Tanima no Himeyuri", flowers that bloom from spring to early summer and have been loved since ancient times.
By aquatint technique, it shows an optional expression, a work unique to copperplate engraving expressed minutely to details. Although it is a small work, it is a noble print with presence.
Artist Profile:
Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1912.
There are copperplate engravings such as "Bunraku (A) Hatsukiku" produced in 1977, known for representational expression by outstanding technique. In his later years, he also worked on series such as "Heisei Fugaku Sanjurokkei" and "The Tale of Genji" series, receiving high evaluation.
Passed away in 1997.
